Bye 2016!!

What a wonderful time of the year!!! Yes this is the most wonderful time of the year. I can smell happiness and joy in the air.. Lol

Hello my fellow blogging friends,

It was wonderful to travel along with you all in this blogging journey this year. Billion thanks to all of you. I have learned a lot during this journey. I lived up to my resolution of this year of writing a post on every Tuesday since May till today and I am so happy about it. Today I am ending 2016 Tuesday journey and I will be back in the year 2017. This year has been a great one personally and professionally. I am all set ready to let go 2016 and welcome 2017. Very much looking forward to see what the new year brings.

In this post I would like to insist on Greening the season. As we all know that household wastes increases at least by 25% during holiday season especially between Thanksgiving and New year’s day, so it is our responsibility to be considerate and take efforts to reduce wastes and adopt recycling and reusing methods.

Following are some of the tips to help us to green this season.

  • Reduce Shopping Bags
  • Make use of recycled materials
  • Reuse gift wraps, ribbons bows, bags/wrap gifts without box
  • Replant, Compost, or Mulch Your Tree
  • Last but not least more than materialistic gifts try to give creatively like (cooking, babysitting, or gardening), a charitable donation, or tickets to an event

As quoted by Mahatma Gandhiji, lets be the change to see the change we want to see.

With this note, I wish you all a Holly Jolly Christmas and Happy Holidays. Enjoy your holidays, don’t forget to take time off and be merry spending time with your near and dear ones.

Thanksgiving through my eyes!

We did not have this special occasion of Thanksgiving Day in my country. Because of the corporate lifestyle, we started celebrating Thanksgiving day and only in office. It’s not a holiday for us to celebrate elsewhere, that was one of the reasons we celebrated only in office. Movies and friends from western countries introduced Thanksgiving day to us. I did not know that people ate Turkey on Thanksgiving day and it’s a tradition :-(. I learned about this special day late. Now that I live in western country, I’m learning about this day more. It’s wonderful to see how people make honest efforts to be with their family or dear ones on this special day and says thanks to each other. It’s a great feeling to know that people take this one day off to be thankful to everything they receive!

Not to forget, it’s such a wonderful time of the year to pause and reflect on everything 🙂

I grew up being told to be thankful every day and my day starts by thanking God for everything and thanking everyone and everything for supporting my life journey. Being grateful is an amazing feeling. There is so much in life that we receive and we are overwhelmed by that. Let’s say when everything goes well, it’s easy to give thanks, what if somethings are not going well as you expected? It’s easy to get distracted from being thankful right?  I know you would agree with me. No matter what the situation is, thanksgiving is important.  Being thankful is definitely more than having an attitude of gratitude! Well, gratitude need not be necessarily expressed in the form of words but it could be your touch, a look or even your eyes filled with tears, the recipient will understand it.

One of the best reasons to be thankful for is that when you are thanking God and thankful for everything and everyone, your heart will be raised to see things far beyond the problems that exists in this world. That’s why I say it’s best to start your day this way.

Another reason is that you will receive great benefits for your body, isn’t that awesome????  Yes, that’s true and very much. When you are practicing to be grateful to what you are given with each day you will observe and experience a positive mental state. Having a positive mental state cannot be ignored because it does a great job by lowering your stress; if your stress is lowered you are going to see an overall health improvement. This is not a joke. You can research more about it or ask people who actually experience this daily.

By practicing this attitude of gratitude helps you to focus on good things in life, the more you feed good things, the more you see good results.

Next time when someone says thank you for your help, be keen and observe it once, 1. you will smile, 2. you will feel good about yourself and 3. It will trigger an internal sense to make you want to help more.

We all know about this and yet we get distracted in our busy lifestyle.  When celebrating Thanksgiving day a year can bring a bundle of peace and joy to us, why not we celebrate it every day??

This is how I see Thanksgiving!! Let’s be grateful to all what we receive in this life each day.

Wishing you all a very happy Thanksgiving holiday and be blessed with your near and dear ones.

Thank you for reading friends! See you next Tuesday!

#8 A trick to make you feel good good

Employee: Submits the difficult task within critical deadline.

Manager: No reaction.

Annie: Annie invites her friend Sheila for the dinner party.

Sheila: Sheila attends the party, enjoys the dinner and leaves.

Well, what do you think about this? It doesn’t look good, right? Manager and Sheila are missing something.

You ask for help from your neighbor and you do not take an effort to acknowledge it, do you think your neighbor is going to help you again?

Annie is not going to have a nice feel about Sheila not acknowledging her friend about the efforts she put for the dinner party.

The employee is not going to be motivated next time for a task from that manager who does not acknowledge his work.

Why am I talking about acknowledgment? Today my sister had been to her friend’s place for a birthday party and she returned home with a gift bag. I asked her why is that whenever there is a get-together or birthday party, there is a return gift. Why do they waste money? I’m sure they are already spending money for the party. Then why all this formalities? She replied that ‘this a way of acknowledgment to let me know that she appreciated my presence in the party’. Wow, that’s right.

That’s how my today’s thought stirred around acknowledgment. I started thinking how many acknowledgments I received at work, from family, friends etc. Likewise, I do take many efforts to acknowledge others.  How much special I felt about it <3. It is both ways when I received acknowledgments as well as when I acknowledged others, I feel so good about it ^^’.

There was an instance when one of my junior team members worked on a task with me at a crucial deadline and we did it successfully. Once the work is complete, I received appreciation from our managers as I was directly assigned to that task. I walked up to him and appreciated his hard work and announced to our team members about his hard work and he received a huge applaud from all. I wanted his work to be recognized and appreciated. To my surprise, he did not say anything, he was silent and returned to his work. I felt embarrassed thinking I did something wrong. Days passed, he came to my desk one day and told me that he did not know how to react when he was appreciated as no one had ever appreciated him like that. He was overwhelmed and did not know what to say. Not knowing how to react for an appreciation made him think about it a lot and it took him days to understand it. He told me that he is now able to receive what I had done and it did help him a lot. I knew that day that acknowledgment definitely makes a positive impact in a person. It is a good thing to offer and we should not shy away from that.

We try ways to make people feel good and special. A simple acknowledgment like a gift, thank you card, appreciation letter, acknowledgment email, a big smile:-D etc. does that trick of making you and the others  feel good good ❤

Don’t forget the trick next time 🙂
